Joaquin Phoenix has weighed in on the possibility of a sequel to 2022's Joker.
In a recent audience with The Playlist, the player official that, while He's involved in developing the eponymous anti-hero farther, he doesn't know whether a pursue-up movie will ever happen.

The movie's director, Todd Phillips, originally said that he and his squad have "no plans for a sequel," though reports emerged earlier this year suggesting that Warner Bros. had so given Phillips the green light for another Jokester instalment.
Nothing has yet been unchangeable officially, though, with those rumors coming primarily from a blink-and-you'll-miss-it quote in a THR article along attorney Warren Dern suggesting that Phillips (matchless of Dern's clients) had "struck a deal to co-write the next Joker."
Phillips has likewise been quoted as implying that any possible sequel would be dependent on Genus Phoenix's interest, telling IGN in 2022 that "if we can fles IT out, and if Joaquin's go through to do IT, we would come it."
Inclined the actor's recent comments to The Playlist, and so, it looks look-alike a Joker reexamination has got the varnish of approval from both its would-be guiding man and filmmaker. In theory, it'll like a sho be up to Charles Dudley Warner Bros. to "figure information technology out," Eastern Samoa Phillips puts it.
Psychoanalysis: Would Warner Bros. head vertebral column to Gotham?
Put simply, we expect IT would – especially if Phoenix is up for it, which was perhaps the biggest query mark over a potential continuation.
Turkey was a huge – and likely unexpected – financial success for the studio, raking in a whopping $1 billion from a reported budget of to a lesser degree $70 million, and then IT figures that Warner Bros. would jump at the chance to cash in connected a followup movie.
Part of the original's appeal, though, was its stripped rearward approach to telling the origin story of a character and then often accustomed to gigantic-budget superhero productions. Non to spoil the ending of Phillips' Joker, but any potential sequel seems unlikely to be capable of matching that same part-driven narrative interest.
Joker is a character study that intimately follows the life of a unfortunate respective on his way to becoming the face-painted villain popularized by the original comics – that's what made it such an fascinating, if dissentious, take.
Any sequel, though, would be constrained to either pick dormie virtually immediately after the original's ending, or some years dejected the line – but either agency, it would battle to carry the very emotional power American Samoa the original movie, simply because there's very little room left for further developing the Joker as a character.
Still, that's unlikely to deter Warner Bros. from bearing back to Gotham City. Money talks, after all, and having Phoenix coming back to the role would almost certainly prove a gainful make a motion for the studio apartment.
Should there be a Turkey 2? Probably not. Will there be? IT's looking likely, at this point. Given Phoenix's supposed lack of knowledge around the integral plan, though, we wouldn't expect to see to it a sequel arrive any time shortly.
